salmonella food poisoning in uncooked tomatoes ?
maybe i've been living in a cave or something
but i always thought salmonella was limited to eggs and chicken products ****************************************** ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Salmonella food poisoning first linked to uncooked tomatoes has spread to 16 U.S. states, health officials said Saturday. Investigations by the Texas and New Mexico Departments of Health and the U.S. Indian Health Service have tied 56 cases in Texas and 55 in New Mexico to raw, uncooked, tomatoes. "We're seeing a steady increase," Deborah Busemeyer, New Mexico Department of Health communications director, said Saturday. An additional 50 people have been sickened by the same Salmonella "Saintpaul" infection in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Investigators are trying to determine if raw tomatoes also are responsible for the illnesses in those states, said Arleen Porcell, a CDC spokeswoman. The source of the tomatoes responsible for the illnesses has not been pinpointed but health officials in Texas and New Mexico said none of them was grown in those two states. At least 23 people have been taken to hospital but no deaths have been reported, she said. Patients ranged in age from one to 82. The rarity of the Saintpaul strain and the number of illnesses "suggest that implicated tomatoes are distributed throughout the country," she said. The illnesses began between April 16 and May 27, Porcell said. Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached and homegrown tomatoes are likely not the source of the outbreak, Busemeyer said. Also not associated with the outbreak are raw Roma, red plum and round red tomatoes from Canada, Arkansas, California, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Food and Drug Association. However, CTV News reported on its website that McDonald's fast-food outlets in Canada have temporarily removed tomatoes from their menu options, after the U.S. warnings. McDonald's said they haven't experienced any problems to date but consider the move a "precautionary measure." Salmonella is a bacteria that lives in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals. It usually is transmitted to humans by eating food contaminated with animal feces. Most infected people suffer fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps starting 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness tends to last four to seven days. Many people recover without treatment but severe infection and death is possible. http://www.940news.com/nouvelles.php?cat=24&id=60798 |

Re: salmonella food poisoning in uncooked tomatoes ?
Time for the USDA to step in and outlaw raw foods all together. they've already ruined milk and almonds. God only knows what else is chemically pastuerized or irradiated. :banghead:

Re: salmonella food poisoning in uncooked tomatoes ?
Nah , I think last years Spinach scare was salmonella related too.
And Conk is right as usual , it's just part of the plan to irradiate all foods. Like BigDrug/BigPharm, BigFood sees it as a hell of a lot easier, and a whole helluva lot more profitable, to address the symptom (by nuking everything we consume) than the cause (poor farming techiques, poor (already fried) soils, poor shipping, poor processing, poor packaging- just basically poor anything outside the actual 'growing', which , strictly defined, still has Mother Nature's patent on it). Speaking of spinach, I cry.Lost almost everything today. I knew, watching the weather I should take what was there , but you have hope that you will foil Nature! You always hope you shall! Two 90+ degree days here in NE and we bolt like a racehorse. C'est le Vie. Will clip 'em all tomorrow for stews and ricotta stuffings, but no baby spinach salads for panda this year. My guys were not 4 inches high and spiked same or more overnight in the bolt. Next year is new varieties ,as this is 2nd or 3rd year this has happened. Or perhaps i jst do the smart thing and listen to my neighbor-" you sow spinach seeds right into the snow in early March, and harvest it all , no matter what, on the second 80 degree day of the year, and gorge yourself." Lettuce has fared well so far , especially the simpson elite, but we have at least 2 more 90+ days coming according to the weatherman. Hey , maybe I can sue somebody - you know Global Warming and all.!:D |

Not rocket science. The illegals take a dump while working in the fields contaminating the produce. One more way to stick it to the gringo, er, man.
